Try getting a refund or replacement with 512mb CF. i have stayed clear from 1gb because ive heard some nasty stories. IMO it is better to have 2 512mb

Parents brought me it I said buy two 512, but they said why carry two lots, hmm. people another problem. the camera wont even turn on now. Iv tried 5 differnt pairs of batterys, new an old alkiline batterys, its not turning on. Iv read all the fault FAQ etc in the book, nothing. its dead. I don''t know what to do. i have house insurance for acidently breakage etc but i only took the extra £1500 cover out on the cam 5 days ago so they will question if i ring up and say i droped it or some thing. anyhow this is how my problems have arised. I connected the S2 pro with the 1gb cf to the pc using the firewire connection. win xp automaticly opened a window with the pictures, i started to delete 100 it said 30 seconds, my mate picked the camera up while the deleting was in process, and the lead come detatched. i turned the cam off it said card not intilized etc.. formated no luck. tried another cf it worked fine. took it out tried my 1gb again, wouldn''t even turn on. any help would be greatfully apericaiated thanks

As a rule i never connect any of my digi''s to the computer, instead use fast card readers. Because in this age of viruses you never know what might happen one getting sent to the camera etc (paranoid and unlikely but possible all the same). Also power surges etc, all unlikely but better safe than sorry. It''s strange it won''t power up with the card and it did previously, does it power up on other cards? The S2 runs 2 main circuits 1 for the digital (CCD etc) one for the camera (AF metering etc) one would power up and either the top or back screen would show. Check the CR123A''s and change the AA''s (don''t just recharge them). If it works with other cards the the 1GB is shot (send it back). Its very unlikely it will work with any other cards as almost all digis power up with or without them cards working or not. Wouldn''t worry about insurance its not that bad yet. But you may have to send it to Fuji.

thanks for your quick reply. it wont power up on any card, iv tried even with out the card. no screen shows, the lcd, top screen, middle screen, no lights, no card reading light nothing. iv tried 8 sets of batterys none work. im silly as my computer has a speical panel that i can push all the cards into it. its faster too will use that in furture, virus is unlikey just done a scan nothing.. iv formated the cards etc nothing at all it just wont power up. will fuji charge me? any other help? is there a hidden switch for traveling or any thing silly like that? thanks

Firewire and USB run using more power than older style serial and parrallel connections possibly the cable being pulled out shorted something. (A virus is highly unlikely I was just making a point cause there are a few out there that can hide in folder systems the digital cameras use but none written yet to kill your digital camera , I hope.) Does the computer recognise the camera if you plug it in? No hidden switches I know of. Will check a technical info site though.........Sorry to ask again but you have tried changing both types of batteries and check the contacts are clean.

hello. i tried the camera with the AC power supply and it worked fine. Reason i didnt try it before is because i didnt have one for the camera i found one which uses the same power rating. any way it works fine with the ac power. this is witch all the batterys out aa ones and the CR flash ones. i put the aa batterys back in the camera WITHOUT using the ac power and with out the CR batterys it works fine with juse the 4 aas, i put the flash batterys back in and the camera dosen''t work at all. So basicly the camera is working on 4 AAs. What is the next step? thanks my 1gb card still dosn''t work in the camera. thanks ps the camera wont work with the AC power, and the flash batterys installed. the flash CR batterys are causing the problems. found the problem. where the flash batterys goes there is 2 little metal levers. when i push them down it cuts the camera off and it dosnt work u can do this with your finger its inside the flash battery bit two metal levers. Follow up... the metal levers are cut off levers so you dont damage the camera when you insert the CR 123a batterys.. i brought new ones and it works fine. below is the results of my investigation and a letter for Fuji.

i am wirting to inform you about a fault with the fuji finepix s2 pro 2 DSLR that you may not be aware of. my camera stopped working completetly and even after putting in 4 fresh AA betteries still didnt have any joy. not realising that if the 2 CR flash batteries had dropped in voltage slightly (2 1/2 v each battery - total 5v instead of 6v) that this would stop the whole camera working. without the flash batteries in the camera the camera works OK but obviously no flash function. after installing two new flash batteries all the function are operating as normal. these is no mention of this problem in the hand book and other people like our selves could be left thinking that there is a major problem and repair bill etc with the camera ........... PS. formated the 1gb card works fine no problems thanks every body for your help David Lucas Aged 15 London UK

Garry stated that prob when you were considering buying the camera and looking for advice. You need several pairs as back up thats why I asked if you had changed both the AA''s AND the CR123A''s. It goes through them quite quick and without warning the batt indicator for them seems to show half power then just cuts out. To be honest I didn''t think the camera would not show any signs of power I''m sur on the S1 it did, but thats another version so hey ho. The S" is a great camera but it really is the most daft system having 2 sets of batts! 7dayshop are cheap for them (CR123''s) get quite a lot say 2 or 3 spare pairs. Is the 1GB working as a result or still shot?

Yes, I did warn you about this problem before you bought the camera.

Suggestion 1. RFM, especially Page 25 "Symptons when depleted.... The camera will not switch on"
Suggestion 2. Either keep a good stock of Lithium batteries or use the camera without them.

Added by andy52 on 04/Jan/04 at 23:14:10 Thank god i bought a 10D and not a S2 !!! Andy, I had someone in the studio last week on a Course with the 10D - an impressive camera IMO and several features on it are better than on the S2 - but the S2 is a very fine camera too, and IMO produces much better image quality. As with any equipment, you just have to learn how to use it properly to get the best out of it and you have to learn to live with the annoying little quirks.

Garry, i have enough annoying quirks in my life, mainly called the wife (and when times are bad the mother in law too) so the last thing i need is a tempremental camera like the S2 or has MR D J Hazard been unlucky. No doubt the S2 is superior to the 10D, but i, and the customers who buy my prints are very contented. You''re a great guy Garry, maybe one day we will meet. andy52

I bought my S2 before Xmas and have been very impressed with it. You can see some mono work at the link on the Amateur Photographers site. The original thread covered the ISO800 performance and then I showed some ISO100 images shot recently. Here Gareth

Hi everyone ! I''ve been reading this forum and it seem to me i am not the only guy with problems. Well I just bought the S2 pro but apparently my card iz not iniatialized and I already tried every suggestion u wrote. Changing batteries, Formatting on Mac Formatting on PC Formatting with the camera: "card error" = this is the message showed when i tried to format with the camera. The card is the IBM 1gb and I wish I can see the S2 set-up menu soon. I will do 2morrow one more test with a card reader but I guess my NEW MINT card is gone. It ''s normal because a card error i cannot reach the S2 menu ? thanks to everyone just to read this. Peace

I hope everybody has sorted out their problems by now; if not i can only tell you my findings which may be of use. I have 2 Fiji S2pros and now one Canon 10D I have found both Fuji''s will say "card not initiallised on odd occasions ( for no apparent reason. ie. the lead has not come out. If I keep pressing the play button they will usually work eventually and give you the chance to format.(very annoying however) Now the two important parts. 1. If I put the apparently us c/f card into my Canon 10D it has no problems at all then I can format it and then use it in the fuji again without problems. - so you could try going to a camera shop or ask anyone with a canon to format the c/f for you. 2. please note I read some where that you should never format a c/f card within windows if you want to use it in a Fuji camera, always format in camera. I would also say card readers are a very good thing - I never download using the camera. Dave www.dpiphotos.com
